Wings Signed Puck
Wings sign Andreas Lilja to 2yr deal (for dirt cheap)... Does this mean Stuart is not expected to sign?

It guarantees that DETROIT have the same 7Dmen that we had all of the REG season last year, as Chelios is not signed but will (and be the 7th man).. Holland is waiting to see what bonuses he can offer him after free agency as no one can carry over bonuses paid this year in to next year like teams have done the last few years!

I like this move it guarantees we have 7 Dmen we had last season, and it gives Ericsson one more year in GR to develop! The Wings said if they will carry 8 Defenseman all year long...if we sign Quincey (RFA), he makes the eigth!

Does this mean that if Stuart signs DET trades a Dman?
If so... who? Ledba, Meech or Quincey? Or do we go after a Hainsey type guy and trade someone?
For those that dont know:
Meech is like a Lebda size wise and puck moving wise.. just a little more physical. Not as experienced.
Quincey is like a LILJA... bigger and solid defensively.. not as strong offensively!

Quincey is completely out of options so he must remain with the Wings or go through waivers. The Wings are very high on him so he will stick. That is why they have said they will go with 8 D. Erricson will get one more year of development in G.R. and it is entirely possible they work in Lebda and/or Meech as a 4th line forward. Both skate tremendously well and would be defensively responsible so there is one possibility. I think as much as they would like to ink Stuart I dont think it will happen. They are so cap savvy that they wont pay the high dollar for a second pairing D and see if Quincey can step into a similar role with Kronwall as his partner (they played together for a bit in GR). They are so good at developing players....remember when Zetterberg and Datsyuk first came to the Wings? They played secondary roles and learned from the veterans (Chelios has far more value as an on Ice coach than actual player). The only roles they may look to fill will be a top 6 forward and possibily a 3rd/4th line defensive minded forward (could Fedorov be headed back?, there is some interest by the Wings according to some "sources" and he already told some Washington reporters he would be open to returning). They will need cap space soon if they decide Howard isnt the goalie of the future (it will be interesting to watch to see if Buffalo can re-sign Ryan Miller....if not you can bet the mortage the Wings will see if he fits their desires) another reason they might deem Stuart too expensive.
